Education First Alliance joins families across the state in mourning the loss of Ashley High School teacher Jessica Embry who died while assisting rescuers in saving the lives of two children caught in a rip current Sunday evening.

“In an attempt to rescue the children, several bystanders and members of the Kure Beach Fire Department, entered the water and successfully brought the children to shore,” the Kure Beach Police Department press release stated.

“The Kure Beach Police Department commends the heroic efforts and sacrifice made by Jessica Embry, bystanders, and rescuers. Jessica Embry, along with all involved, are credited with saving the lives of the children,” the release stated.

Ms. Embry was outspoken on social media about her love of her local church, the Ohio Bobcats, and teaching music to children. Our prayers are with her family and the children she taught whose lives will no doubt be darker because of her loss.

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” - John 15:13
